it's a racquet as revealed in today's class action lawsuit ruling that Intuit has to pay millions of people for fees incurred through predatory advertising luring folks in with free filing only to upgrade (one-way-street) into higher priced products. THEY ARE BILKING YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU'VE GOT. but they could warn you.) TURBO TAX IS NOT YOUR FRIEND. (note: this is not Turbo Tax billing you. AND, there's a convenience fee (read the font 2 small print) of 2.49% on the amount you are paying the government (e.g., $3000 tax liability is about 80$ convenience fee) for paying by credit card. Additionally, major downgrade to their product where tax jargon goes unexplained, help leads you to formal tax documents written for accountants, and any community help is unvetted so you get what you get from rando's providing "support" (some of which is okay). I've been on the phone for about 4 hours now and they just can't create a partial refund so that I am only paying for what I used. If you click on a product upgrade (even just to check it out) you are literally locked into that upgrade with NO way of downgrading back to the product you actually need except to fully blitzkrieg your entire filing. And as far as their 'Accuracy Guarantee or your money back,' IT DOES NOT APPLY TO TURBOTAX ONLINE, so if they screw that up, AFTER you've approved something other than what they submit, you're out of luck! If you care about customer service, stay as far away as you can from this company.īUYER BEWARE! Their upgrade design is for maximum profitability and minimum flexibility. And then when they call, they'll pass you from rep to rep, each of whom have you do the same thing the previous rep did, and it's infuriating.
If you want to speak with someone, you have to schedule a call which can be 4 days from when you want to speak with someone. I have never felt as angry with a company as I am currently with Intuit and TurboTax. They'll communicate through a chat feature, but the chats disappear within a few days, so again, unless you take screen shots, you have no record of communication. Each one made promise after promise knowing that as soon as they hung up with me, I'd have no way to ever contact them again.

Every rep I spoke with had no idea how the site worked, so 10-20-30 years worth of tax experience meant absolutely nothing because they were all seasonal workers (working from home) who don't know how to use the TurboTax site to amend a return. I'm not exaggerating when I say it took 8 reps over 7 weeks to figure out how to amend my taxes. This of course resulted in my account being debited $942. TurboTax filed my taxes, but did not enter my Local Tax of $942 as being paid, even though it was clearly on my W-2. TurboTax reps DO NOT know their own website or product
